Robin Bryant was born in 1944 and has had a career in merchant banking before setting up a consultancy business to provide services to banks and other financial services companies, including acting as an expert banking witness. He is a member of the Chartered Institute of Bankers (Institute of Financial Services), a member of the Expert Witness Institute and the Academy of Experts. Robin Bryant is a CEDR Accredited Mediator. The banks for which Robin Bryant worked included National Westminster Bank, County Bank, Standard Chartered Bank, N M Rothschild & Son and Riggs AP Limited. In all these banks, Robin Bryant held either director or senior executive positions, including the general management of a bank. He was responsible for setting up risk analysis procedures, lending guidelines, administrative procedures as well as leading teams of loan officers. He negotiated corporate loans, managed a hire purchase company, a commercial mortgage lending company and negotiated venture and development capital transactions. In the early 1990s Robin left direct banking employment to set up, with a former colleague, a consultancy to recover money for banks: almost all banks had lent heavily into the commercial property market in the late 1980s/early 1990s. His clients included Lloyds TSB and Barclays Bank. Robin Bryant has provided expert evidence to the High Court in some 200 cases of litigation involving banks, where he acted for the Claimants and the Defendants in a ratio of 7:3. He has acted both 'for' banks and 'against' them. He was part of Sir Louis Blom-Cooper's working party dealing with the implementation of the Woolf reforms, as regards expert witnesses. Many of his 200 actions related to professional negligence. One such action led to the use of mediation and this set him on the road to becoming a mediator. Other current activities include the provision of advice to those engaged in dealing with banks and he has a number of other corporate projects involving the finance industry. He advises on fund raising, particularly in relation to property transactions. His outside interests include being chairman of a music festival, opera, jazz, theatre, antiques and the decorative arts, most sports, and fitness.
